Matt. 7:13–27, he gives us four pictorial contrasts to help us not miss the path into the community of prayerful love, where what the law and the prophets really said is fulfilled because people actually treat others the way they would like to be treated (7:12). (Pg 274, Para 3)
The four pictorial contrasts in this passage in Matthew 7 are these:
1. The narrow gate and the wide gate (vv. 13–14).
2. The good tree with its “insides,” and the bad tree (vv. 15–20).
Subpicture—Wolves in sheep’s clothing. False leaders contrasted with the true: They do not have the spontaneous and constant goodness of the heart of Jesus (v. 15). Internally they are “wolves.”
3. Final judgment of those who do “the will of my Father” and of those who try to substitute for that great deeds “in your name” (vv. 21–23).
4. Those who hear him and do what he says (house on the rock) and those who hear him but do not do what he says (house on the sand) (vv. 24–27). (Pg 275, Para 3)
2. 我们要选择自己的老师,成为谁的学徒。
We are product of other people influence, we need to choose our Master
It is one of the major transitions of life to recognize who has taught us, mastered us, and then to evaluate the results in us of their teaching. This is a harrowing task, and sometimes we just can’t face it. But it can also open the door to choose other masters, possibly better masters, and one Master above all. (Pg 272, Para 6)
i。不要再欺骗自己
Anyone who is not a continual student of Jesus, and who nevertheless reads the great promises of the Bible as if they were for him or her, is like someone trying to cash a check on another person’s account. At best, it succeeds only sporadically. (Pg 273, Para 2)
ii。“天国近了,你要悔改”的信息,必然的结果就是要成为祂的门徒
In other words, his basic message, “Rethink your life in the light of the fact that the kingdom of the heavens is now open to all” (Matt. 4:17), presents the resources needed to live human life as we all automatically sense it should be and naturally leads one to become his student, or apprentice in kingdom living. (Pg 274, Para 2)
iii。成为祂的门徒,就要花时间与祂在一起,向祂学习。
But if I am to be someone’s apprentice, there is one absolutely essential condition. I must be with that person. This is true of the student-teacher relationship in all generality. And it is precisely what it meant to follow Jesus when he was here in human form. To follow him meant, in the first place, to be with him. (Pg 276, Para 4)
iv。我们离不开圣灵和圣经。
his preferred way is to speak, to communicate: thus the absolute centrality of scripture to our discipleship. And this, among other things, is the reason why an extensive use of solitude and silence is so basic for growth of the human spirit, for they form an a appropriate context for listening and speaking to God.1 (Pg. 277, Para. 3)
Thus Paul very simply says, “All who are interactive with the spirit of God are God’s children” (Rom. 8:14). The interactive movement he refers to is the inner reality, not the outward manifestations. And: “The kingdom of God is not eating and drinking but is inner rightness (dikaiosune) and peace and joy sustained by the Holy Spirit. For those serving Christ in this way are well-pleasing to God and approved by men” (Rom. 14:17–18). (Pg 280, Para 3)
3. 成为耶稣的门徒,在任何生活范畴里:在职场,在教会里都一样。

Disciple define : The disciple or apprentice of Jesus, as recognized by the New Testament, is one who has firmly decided to learn from him how to lead his or her life, whatever that may be, as Jesus himself would do it. (Pg 291, Para2)
I am learning from Jesus how to lead my life, my whole life, my real life. Note, please, I am not learning from him how to lead his life. His life on earth was a transcendently wonderful one. But it has now been led. Neither I nor anyone else, even himself, will ever lead it again. And he is, in any case, interested in my life, that very existence that is me. There lies my need. I need to be able to lead my life as he would lead it if he were I. (Pg 283, Para 5)
ii。耶稣门徒的生活就是从你当下的处境里活出来的。
The teachings of Jesus in the Gospels show us how to live the life we have been given through the time, place, family, neighbors, talents, and opportunities that are ours. His words left to us in scripture provide all we need in the way of general teachings about how to conduct our particular affairs. If we only put them into practice, along the lines previously discussed, most of the problems that trouble human life would be eliminated. That is why, as we have noted, Jesus directs his teaching in Matthew 5 through 7 toward things like murder and anger, contempt and lusting, family rejection, verbal bullying. This is real life. Though his teachings do not make a life, they intersect at every point with every life. (Pg 284, Para 4)
iii。所以,神在乎你的工作 The Glory of My Job
Consider just your job, the work you do to make a living. This is one of the clearest ways possible of focusing upon apprenticeship to Jesus. To be a disciple of Jesus is, crucially, to be learning from Jesus how to do your job as Jesus himself would do it. New Testament language for this is to do it “in the name” of Jesus. (Pg 285, Para 3)
iv。工作和追求卓越对于耶稣门徒的重要,有时候更重要过我们在教会的活动。
the specific work to be done—whether it is making ax handles or tacos, selling automobiles or teaching kindergarten, investment banking or political office, evangelizing or running a Christian education program, performing in the arts or teaching English as a second language—is of central interest to God. He wants it well done. It is work that should be done, and it should be done as Jesus himself would do it. Nothing can substitute for that. In my opinion, at least, as long as one is on the job, all peculiarly religious activities should take second place to doing “the job” in sweat, intelligence, and the power of God. That is our devotion to God. (I am assuming, of course, that the job is one that serves good human purposes.) Our intention with our job should be the highest possible good in its every aspect, and we should pursue that with conscious expectation of a constant energizing and direction from God. (Pg 286, Para 5-6)

One who does not know this way of “job discipleship” by experience cannot begin to imagine what release and help and joy there is in it. And to repeat the crucial point, if we restrict our discipleship to special religious times, the majority of our waking hours will be isolated from the manifest presence of the kingdom in our lives. Those waking hours will be times when we are on our own on our job. Our time at work—even religious work—will turn out to be a “holiday from God.”
On the other hand, if you dislike or even hate your job, a condition epidemic in our culture, the quickest way out of that job, or to joy in it, is to do it as Jesus would. This is the very heart of discipleship, and we cannot effectively be an apprentice of Jesus without integrating our job into The Kingdom Among Us. (Pg 287, Para 5-6)

he took apprentices into the work that he was doing to teach them how to do what he did. His work had three main phases, clearly enumerated and illustrated in the Gospels (Matt. 4:23; 9:35; 10:7–8). (Pg 288, Para 1)
1. PROCLAIMING. The first was simply announcing God’s new move forward in human history.
2. MANIFESTING. The second phase of Jesus’ work, in which his disciples were therefore to be apprenticed, was the manifestation of God’s rule from the heavens.
3. TEACHING. The third phase of their apprenticeship was in teaching about the nature of God and about what his rule among human beings was like.
4. 如何成为耶稣的门徒 How to Become a Disciple
i。成为耶稣的门徒,不只是一个信仰的告白,或者一个好教徒。
It is now generally acknowledged, as we have noted, that one can be a professing Christian and a church member in good standing without being a disciple. There is, apparently, no real connection between being a Christian and being a disciple of Jesus. And this is bound to be rather confusing to a person who would like to be a disciple. (Pg 291, Para 4)
ii。我们要探讨,到底什么促使人要成为耶稣的门徒 (你有没有问一问自己这个问题):

A disciple of Jesus is one who is with Jesus, learning to be like him, what, we must ask, is the state of soul that would bring us to choose that condition? what would lead someone to choose discipleship to him? (Pg 291, Para 5)

The only thing these people were sweating about was whether they would “get the deal.” Now that is the soul of the disciple.

Counting the cost is precisely what the man with the pearl and the hidden treasure did. Out of it came their decisiveness and joy. It is decisiveness and joy that are the outcomes of the counting. What this passage in Luke is about is clarity. It is not about misery, or about some incredibly dreadful price that one must pay to be Jesus’ apprentice. (Pg 293, Para 4-5)
4.1 想要拥有成为耶稣门徒的决心,你可以开始做什么?
How can we come to admire Jesus sufficiently to “sell everything we have and buy the pearl of great value” with joy and excitement?
i。 Ask 询问
The first thing we should do is emphatically and repeatedly express to Jesus our desire to see him more fully as he really is. Remember, the rule of the kingdom is to ask. We ask to see him (Pg 295, Para 3)
We should make our expression of desire a solemn occasion, giving at least a number of quiet hours or a day to it. It will also be good to write down our prayer for his help in seeing him. We should do this privately, of course, but then we should share what we have done with a knowledgeable minister or friend who could pray with us and talk
with us about what we are doing.
ii。Dwell, Reside, in His Words 沉浸在祂的话语中
Second, we should use every means at our disposal to come to see him more fully.
“If you dwell in my word, you really are my apprentices. And you will know the truth, and the truth will liberate you” (8:31–32). - dwelling in his word is not just intensive and continuous study of the Gospels, though it is that. It is also putting them into practice.
iii。Now Decide: The Power of Decision and Intention 做决定
But the final step in becoming a disciple is decision. We do not intend to be disciples. It is the power of the decision and the intention over our life that is missing. We should apprentice ourselves to Jesus in a solemn moment, and we should let those around us know that we have done so.

5。 帮助别人成为耶稣的门徒 Helping Others Find Their Way into Discipleship。
Those who have found their way in will inevitably want to share the new reality they have found with those around them. When we discover something great, we naturally want all those we really care about to be in on it. (Pg 299, Para 3)
i。要帮助别人,我们自己必须先成为耶稣的门徒 Be disciples,
因为成为耶稣的门徒不能像制造罐头似的,他必须自己也有所经历,才能以身示教。
- First of all, it is clear that, if we would make disciples, we should be disciples. I am sure that some have been made disciples of Jesus by those who were not.
“disciple making” is not something one can plan on, for it occurs only by accident, so to speak, and the grace of God. We cannot use it as the basis of a plan. To plan on making disciples, we need to know what one is and how people become disciples. We need to know these things by personal experience, as did the first generation of Jesus’ people. They had been made disciples. And we need to be standing in the position of Jesus’ students and co-workers, so that our efforts in making disciples will be appropriately guided and strengthened by him. They are, after all, to be his disciples, not ours. (Pg 299, Para 6- Pg 300, Para 1-2)
ii。我们要愿意栽培和影响他人成为耶稣的门徒 we must intend to make disciples,
It must be our conscious objective, consciously implemented, to bring others to the point where they are daily learning from Jesus how to live their actual lives as he would live them if he were they. That implemented intention would soon transform everything among professing Christians as we know them. (Pg 302, Para 5)
We devoted our time to inspiring and enabling Christians and others to be people who are not offend-able and not angry and who are forgiving as a matter of course. “Great
peace,” the psalmist says, “have they who love Thy law. Nothing trips them up” (Ps. 119:165). To intentionally make disciples is to open the doorway for people to become like that. That is why it is such a great gift to humankind. (Pg 303, Para 1)
iii。栽培门徒不只是福音机构的专长,教会必须负起责任栽培门徒,而不要太在意会友的人数 Disciple Making is a must - for church :-
This is why in most settings disciple making is regarded as something to be handled by para-church organizations or possibly theological schools, not the local church itself. It is assumed to be enough for church leaders to make converts or induct members and leave discipleship to take care of itself or be cared for by “specialists.” Or perhaps we vaguely hope it will just “happen,” even though the record clearly shows that it rarely does. (Pg 303, Para 4)
iv。栽培门徒最关键的是改变他们旧有的信念 Changing People’s Real Beliefs
Change his/her VISION about the christian life, their knowledge , reality .. (current teaching/culture systematically remove from Christian life ) you lead people to become disciples of Jesus by ravishing them with a vision of life in the kingdom of the heavens in the fellowship of Jesus. And you do this by proclaiming, manifesting, and teaching the kingdom to them in the manner learned from Jesus himself. You thereby change the belief system that governs their lives. (Pg 305, Para4)

Currently the minds and souls of Christians and non-Christians alike are constantly hammered by the innumerable fists of an “information society” and an inescapably media-saturated social consciousness set squarely against the reality of the kingdom of God. Without necessarily intending it, these forces almost irresistibly direct our feelings, imagery, thinking, and belief against the world of Jesus and his Father and against the profound needs and hungers of the human soul. vi。改变信念,行为和品格就必然能更新 Changed Beliefs Change Action and Character。
When we bring people to believe differently, they really do become different. One of the greatest weaknesses in our teaching and leadership today is that we spend so much time trying to get people to do things good people are supposed to do, without changing what they really believe. It doesn’t succeed very well, and that is the open secret of church life. (Pg 307, Para 3)
What has to be done, instead of trying to drive people to do what we think they are supposed to, is to be honest about what we and others really believe. Then, by inquiry, teaching, example, prayer, and reliance upon the spirit of God, we can work to change the beliefs that are contrary to the way of Jesus. We can open the way for others, Christians or not, to heartily choose apprenticeship in the kingdom of God. (Pg 308, Para 3)
vii。改变信念最大的挑战:就是基督徒口里承认种种的道理,心里却没有具体的相信,否认自己信的不够。
A major part of this important work is coming to understand what the people we are dealing with really do believe, and not pretending—often with them—that they believe what they don’t believe at all. In a setting where a social premium has been placed upon believing certain things for the sake of group solidarity, we must face the fact that human beings can honestly profess to believe what they do not believe. They may do this for so long that even they no longer know that they do not believe what they profess. But their actions will, of course, be in terms of what they actually believe. This will be so even though they do not recognize it, and they will lose themselves in bewilderment about the weakness of their “faith.” That bewilderment is a common condition among professing Christians today. (Pg 308, Para 3)
